Name: Ten-chan
Fandom: Petshop of Horrors
Timeline:From right after his chapter, Dummy.
Age: No real age has been stated in canon for him, but he appears in his teens and considering he’s a nine-tailed fox, it’s safe to say he’s centuries old.
Appearance: In his human form, Ten-chan looks something like a goth-like teen. His clothing is generally a black half-shirt with gauze sleeves, which pretty much shows off his lean stomach. As far as the rest of his clothing goes, he also wears black leather looking Capri-styled pants and black combat boots. The strangest thing about his clothing is the fact he has a cross necklace dangling around his neck as well, which kind of feeds into that whole gothic-styled look. His hair is also of a mullet-type of style with a ponytail braid at the end. And for some strange reason he seems to have something of a tilak on his forehead, which isn’t really explained. He is also seen at the end of the chapter in some type of robes with his hair completely down, though this is only really shown when he is working some real kind of magic, meaning very rarely.
As far as his kitsune form goes he has only one, which is the size of a regular sized fox. His coloration is a pure white color with a silver tint and maintains the nine tails of his symbols of power.
Abilities: Haha. Oh man. Ten-chan’s abilities range quite a good bit, the one’s that are a given are the regular kitsune powers. Such as fox fire and the strange little spirit ball that doesn’t seem to serve a real purpose, but if captured will pretty much make him putty in someone’s hands. He also has power of illusions, even being so good as to being able to be seen as several things to different people at one time.
Personality: Ten-chan’s personality is nothing at all like the kitsunes of legend and lore. He’s not much of a trickster and he’s certainly nothing like noble. In fact, he’s more of a crude type of creature, tending to use a crude manner of speech and not seeming to care about regality in any way, shape, or form. As far as that goes, he’ll still act much like his kitsune role when needed, but when not he’s typically lounging around doing who knows what unless asked otherwise. Which leads up to his little soft spot, he has a soft spot for children and generally will do what he can to help them, though only up to a certain point. Such as in the Dummy chapter where the girl’s parents are fighting and when asked to stop it he merely says it’s better to let those kinds of things play out than to get involved. Really, he’s just the complete opposite of the typical kitsune, that’s the best way to describe him.
History: Much of Ten-chan’s history is unknown before the series, but what can be assumed was that he was born as a regular fox like most other kitsune and through centuries of time became the nine tailed kitsune he is today. The fan theory revolving around him is that he joined Count D’s grandfather in the petshop simply because he was bored or because of the fact he needed to do something to earn that last tail or so for his “collection”. It’s been stated several times in his chapter that Ten-chan is not given out as a pet, only that he is loaned out to someone. Unlike the others he’s not one to be sold and left that way.
In his chapter he is given to a family that is new to the city, mainly because the family fights amongst themselves and can’t decide on what pet they want. D states that Ten-chan would be the best one for them, though doesn’t mention that he’s seen as whatever the person looking at him wants to see. The only exception to this little rule was the youngest daughter who saw him as his human form instead of any other kind of pet. This made Ten-chan something akin to curious and thus ended up hanging more around her for the duration of his stay with the family.
During the time he sees the various problems of the family and in his own way trying to cheer them up or on through their problems. However, when a fight breaks out between the family and the little girl tries to stop it, only to go through them instead does Ten-chan realize what she is. When the little girl realizes that she can’t stop it a spark starts up in the house, setting it on fire and getting the family to leave from the house and the girl to end up in the basement. Ten-chan stays up there with her and is soon supposedly “saved” by D who tells Ten-chan to go ahead and do what he needs to. This ends up with Ten-chan revealing his supposed true form and releasing the girl from her ghostly prison after D explains why the girl’s family had left her in the house. The reason being that the father then had taken the family and ran them off a cliff because of a massive amount of debt he’d piled up. When Ten-chan releases the girl, it’s shown that instead of a girl she’s actually a dog that the family had left behind and she rejoins her family in spirit.
After this when D takes Ten-chan outside, we see Leon outside with the family and the family is overjoyed that Ten-chan’s okay. However, what Leon sees of the kitsune is the actual kitsune form. The tiny white fox that he is at that particular time.
